The Alpacas and the Llamas
are members of the four South American camelid family, and have
been bred almost entirely in Peru, the other two members are the
Vicuna and the Guanaco. The Alpaca fiber is considered one of the
most luxurious, silky and softest natural fibers in the world. A
little know fact, is that, the Alpaca fleas in nature occur in 22
different colors. Alpaca fiber rivals the popularity of such fine
fibers as cashmere and pashmina among top designers around the world,
as its texture is much stronger then merino sheep wool and its softness
and silkiness is superior to that of angora and cashmere.
For some peoples that have allergies to sheep wool, Alpaca can make
a wonderful alternative since it is typically the lanolin in the
wool that causes allergic reactions and Alpaca fiber not contain
lanolin.
Baby Alpaca, the king of wools, comes from the first shearing of
the Alpaca. That’s why it is softer and rarer peruvian Baby
Alpaca is actually rarer than cashmere. Compared to wool, Baby Alpaca
is softer, lighter and silkier.
The LLama’s wool is stronger than Alpaca wool. This fiber is
high quality, wear resistance and non-flammable.
